SPLK is out with earnings sending the stock 7.9% higher on 250k shares traded. 7% of the float is short. The pre-mkt bid/ask is a nickle to a dime wide.

Splunk Inc. SPLK, +3.07% shares surged 6.4% to $74 on heavy volume after the data software’s fourth-quarter results and outlook exceeded Wall Street expectations.

JCP is also out with earnings and the stock is down 13.3% on 3.1m shares traded. The pre-mkt bid/ask is a penny wide. 30.5% of the float is short

J.C. Penney Co. JCP, -12.61% posted a surprise fourth-quarter loss of $59 million, or 19 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $35 million, or 11 cents a share. Excluding charges and other items, the loss was less than one cent a share in the latest period. Sales rose 2.9% to $3.89 billion, with online sales increasing nearly 13%.

Gap Inc. GPS, +2.92%  said its fourth-quarter earnings rose to $319 million, or 75 cents a share, from $307 million, or 68 cents, a year earlier. The most recent quarter’s results topped the FactSet consensus estimate by 1 cent a share. Sales grew 3% to $4.71 billion.

MNST is out with earnings and the stock is up 11% on 105k shares traded, stock is currently at 138.60 with a bid ask almost a dollar wide. 1.5% of the float is short
